Where there's a way to make a will

Financial experts and community leaders will help Bahamians gain greater wealth security for their beneficiaries by offering a free Wills and Estate Planning Seminar from March 14-15 at the Kingdom Life Church on Chesapeake Road..

The list of presenters includes former president of the Bahamas Bar Association Ruth Bowe-Darville, lawyers Sean Moree and Rionda Godet, and insurance executive Cardinal McCardy.

Cedric Moss, pastor of Kingdom Life Church and a former trust company executive, said there is a great need to assist Bahamians in preparing wills and planning the affairs of their estates.

“While we are not aware of any studies in the Bahamas, the figures show that more than half the people who die in the United States each year, leave no will,” Pastor Moss said. “In addition, roughly two thirds of African Americans who die each year leave no will. The numbers may be as high or higher in the Bahamas, and this situation often causes turmoil, hardship and stress for the loved ones left behind.”

Pastor Moss said the seminar is designed to emphasise the importance of estate planning and to give ordinary residents tools and tips that would help them better care for the future of their loved ones. Topics for the seminar include, Making An Effective Will: Pitfalls to Avoid, Wills and Divorce: Planning Issues to Consider, and Using Trusts in Estate Planning.

While the seminar is free, online registration is required at www.kingdom-life.org. The deadline for registration is today.
