A 33-year-old man is in police custody after he led investigators to a shallow grave where the naked body of a woman was buried, police sources confirmed yesterday.

While authorities have not officially released an identity, relatives of 24-year-old Nyoshi Adderley – missing since February 22 – believe the discovered remains are that of the mother of one child.

Ms Adderley’s boyfriend is assisting authorities with the investigation, according to a source. He took police to the scene just a quarter of a mile off Cowpen Road on Sunday at around 3pm. It was near an abandoned house.

Once there, Superintendent Paul Rolle of the Central Detective Unit said police identified what appeared to be the body of a woman in a shallow grave.

They believe that the victim had been decomposing over the last two weeks. Police at the scene said they could not identify any visible signs of injury to the body.

Yesterday The Tribune contacted a relative of Ms Adderley, but she declined to comment. Another loved one told this newspaper that the family would reserve comment “at least until her body was positively identified.”

For weeks, social media site Facebook has been buzzing with commentary about Ms Adderley’s whereabouts, with friends and relatives appealing to members of the public to contact the police with whatever information they might have. Ms Adderley’s pictures were shared and “liked” hundreds of times in an effort to raise awareness to the situation.

With news spreading that the discovered remains were believed to be hers, scores of people posted comments.

One Facebook user, ‘Ladii Asaish Rolle’ said: “What I’m struggling with is...who gave man power or (the) right to take a life that was given by God? People so selfish and senseless and as the days pass it’s getting worst. We living in the last days for real. But I will say this, God don’t sleep and he don’t slumber! My condolences to her family, friends and may God guide her little girl in such a time as this. Rest eternally Nyoshi!”

Another social site user added: “Like seriously this country this country... this young lady’s life was taken and left behind a young child and the person who did this didn’t even think about that child. God be with the family and this li’l town.”

Others expressed condolences to Ms Adderley’s family in the wake of her death.

Calls placed to police spokesman Superintendent Stephen Dean and Mr Rolle, were not returned up to press time.

Officer Paul Rolle. my heart goes out to him as well as the victims and their families of violent crimes. Officer Rolle appears to be in deep pain when he has to inform the media about these cases. It is all very sad.
