US Embassy officials tour 'Swan Song of the Flamingo' exhibit

US Chargé Affaires ad interim John Armstrong accompanied by Defence Attaché; Commander Samuel Wartell, Director of Operation Bahamas Turks and Caicos (OPBAT) Commander Mark Driver and Senior Chief Gregory Zerfass of the visiting US Coast Guard Cutter SAWFISH were this week given a tour of the “Swan Song of the Flamingo” exhibit at the National Art Gallery of the Bahamas.

Local artist Kishan Munroe gave the officials an extensive hour-long tour of the exhibit that recounted the tragic incident that occurred on May 10, 1980.

Through vivid paintings, photos and video, the exhibit highlights Mr Munroe’s recreation of the tragedy as well as the response to the incident by renowned Bahamian poets and historians.

The US Coast Guard provided crucial military support to the Royal Bahamas Defence Force and the government of the Bahamas immediately following the sinking of the HMBS Flamingo, and serves a lasting testament to the strong bilateral partnership that remains in place between the US and the Bahamas.
