Customs staff join to celebrate centennial

THE Bahamas Customs and Excise Department on Grand Bahama will join fellow officers throughout the country in celebrating their Centennial Anniversary.

During a press conference at Custom’s office in the CA Smith Complex on Tuesday morning, Alexander Burrows outlined a number of events planned for the milestone.

On Friday, March 21, there will be a flag-raising ceremony scheduled for 10am in the front of the Cornelius A Smith Government Complex.

On Sunday, March 23, the Customs Department will host a special church service at the Freeport Bible Church beginning at 3pm. The Pastor is Rev Wilbur Outten.

Immediately following the service, Customs/Revenue Officers will participate in a parade accompanied by the popular Bahamas Brass Band and will proceed to Customs Headquarters on the Mall Drive.

On Saturday, May 3, beginning at 8am, the officers will stage a Fun/Run/Walk event.

The route will take participants from Customs Headquarters at the CA Smith Complex, north on the Mall to the Airport roundabout and heading south to Ranfurly Circle ending at Customs Headquarters.

Mr Burrows advised that in addition to the activities mentioned residents should stay tuned as more events are planned, including an open forum and exhibition and awards night to name but a few.
