A MAN is facing federal charges in the United States after being arrested for reportedly smuggling cocaine and heroin from The Bahamas into Florida on a cruiseline.

However, Drug Enforcement Unit officers had little information to provide up to press time yesterday due to the arrest being an international matter because it did not occur in The Bahamas’ jurisdiction.

They also could not confirm whether or not 30-year-old Adrian Bradley Trench was a Bahamian.

According to international reports, Trench was on board the Bahamas Celebration cruiseline that arrived in Port Palm Beach from Freeport, Grand Bahama.

Authorities said around 11:20am, Trench got off the ship through the crew gangway and US Customs and Border Protection officers tried to inspect him. However, when he was asked for his crewman landing form (CBP I-95), he claimed to have left it in his room.

The 30-year-old reportedly went back toward the vessel despite pleas from officers to stop. He was apprehended, searched and officers found two packages, one reportedly containing 2.25 pounds of cocaine and the other 1.5 pounds of heroin.

In September 2013’s report on Presidential Determination on Major illicit Drug Transit and Major Illicit Drug Producing Countries, the Bahamas was named as a major drug transit country.
