Carmichael Primary leads by half a point

IT’S going to come down to an intense battle for the top spot as the New Providence Primary Schools Sports Association completes its 4th annual Bertha’s Go-Go Ribs Track and Field Championships today at the Thomas A Robinson Track and Field Stadium.

After the first two days of competition, Carmichael Primary holds a slim 1/2 point lead over the defending champions Cleveland Eneas. Carmichael is out front with 77.5 points, followed by Cleveland Eneas with 77. Sadie Curtis and Albury Sayles are tied for third with 60 and Claridge Primary rounds out the top five with 52.

After getting off to a slow start on day one (Monday), the action picked up on Tuesday with a number of events.

In the girls 400 metres, Janae Cooper ran one minute and 31.22 for the victory. It was a sweep for Gerald Cash as her team-mate I’Diah Ferguson got second in 1:35.12. Sadie Curtis’ Tamia Taylor was third in 1:35.62.

In the boys 400m D division, Bryson Rolle of Claridge Primary stopped the clock in 1:25.83 for the victory. Carlton E’ Francis’ Marcovelli Jean was second in 1:27.47 and Jayden Cooper of CW Sawyer was third in 1:28.33.

In the girls softball throw in the C division, Garvin Tynes’ Alexie Bain threw 24.68 metres for the victory. CW Sawyer’s Hilary Fernander was second with 24.44m and Sandilands Primary’s Ajyne Demeritte was third in 22.32m.

The girls long jump C division was won by Caryli Armbrister of Cleveland Eneas with 3.07m. Taking second was Stephan Estimable of Carmichael Primary with 3.03m. Third place went to Kennia Smith of Oakes Field with 2.83m.

The boys softball throw C division was won by Reuben Bain of EP Roberts with 38.14m. Zachary Gibson of Garvin Tynes was second with 37.44m and Sterlyn Miller of Columbus Primary was third with 35.91m.

In the boys long jump C division, Bernard Kemp of Albury Sayles cleared 4.09m for first place. Placing second was Donald Anderson of Ridgeland Primary with 3.56m. Third place went to Peter Tilusnord of Thelma Gibson with 3.54m.

Winning the girls 1,200 metres B division was Ayesha Sylvester of Albury Sayles in 4:41.08. Jada Woodside of Claridge Primary was second in 4:43.03 and Anastasia Roach of Sandilands Primary was third in 4:54.09.

The girls softball throw B division was won by Asharan Arthur of Thelma Gibson with a heave of 31.39m. Taking second place was Theya Nixon of Sadie Curtis with 27.26m. Third place went to Branika Alexis of Carlton E. Francis with 27.15m.

In the girls high jump B division, Atavya Fowler of Cleveland Eneas cleared 1.11m for the win. Second place went to Branell Saunders of Sadie Curtis with 1.11m. Ophrah Adderley of Gerald Cash was third with 1.11m.

The boys 1,200m B division was won by Omar Kelly of Yelllow Elder in a time of 4:10.31. Ricardo Justin of Sandilands Primary was second in 4:24.59 and Lamarr Jean-Louis of Stephen Dillet was third in 4:28.53.

The boys softball throw B division was won by Antoine Andrews of Gerald Cash with a heave of 38.98m. Camaro Mackey of Claridge Primary was second with 35.95m and third went to Omar Brown of Woodcock Primary with 35.90m.

The boys high jump B division was won by Leand Lightbourne of Ridgeland Primary with a leap of 1.22m. Wayne Sands of Cleveland Eneas was second and Don Stuart of Sadie Curtis was third with the same height (1.22m).

In the girls 800m A division, Catherine Thurston of Cleveland Eneas ran 2:51.12 for the victory. Second went to Tashantae Wilson of Cleveland Eneas in 2:51.66. Kevinique Davis of Carlton E. Francis was third in 2:59.47.

The girls long jump A division was won by Sherea Charlton of Palmdale Primary with 3.71m. Taking second was D’Sasha Cooper of Cleveland Eneas with 3.69m. Coming in third was Pridesha Miller of Claridge Primary with 3.68m.

In the girls shot put A division, Jinaicoeur Victor of Thelma Gibson threw 6.81m for the win. Abigail Saunders of Sadie Curtis was second with 6.40m. Vanessa Noel was third for Albury Sayles with 6.29m.

In the boys 800m A division, Ethan Hanna of Thelma Gibson clocked 2:31.94 for the victory. Keniel King of Sadie Curtis got second with 2:33.35 and Valentino Brown of Yellow Elder was third in 2:35.16.

The boys long jump A division was won by Reuben Cooper of Carmichael Primary with his leap of 5.35m. Steffan McKenzie of Oakes Field was second with 4.65m. Coming in third was Jameslee Valbrum of Adelaide Primary with 4.32m.

And in the boys shot put A division, Dwight Dernier of Cleveland Eneas threw 8.07m for the win. Breon Roache of Gerald Cash was second with 7.94m. Neil Morris of Albury Sayles was third in 7.67m. The meet is scheduled to wrap up today, starting at 9:45am.
