FREEPORT – Four Bahamians and seven illegal immigrants were picked up by authorities in connection with an alleged human smuggling incident in the Dover Sound area on Monday.

According to reports, around 3:30pm Drug Enforcement Unit officers saw a white 32-ft scarab vessel, with three 250hp outboard Yamaha engines, pulling into the boat ramp, where a number of individuals were being offloaded into two vehicles.

As they attempted to leave the area, officers intercepted the vehicles. Four Bahamian occupants – three men and one woman – were discovered along with seven immigrants. Among them were a Haitian national and six Brazilians, including four men and two women.

All were arrested and taken into police custody. The illegal nationals were later handed over to Department of Immigration authorities, who are investigating.
