'Money We Want' video stands out at the Marlin Awards

THE music video for “Money We Want”, for a song by two prominent gospel artists, continues to soar and now heads into the final nominations for the ‘Music Video of the Year’ category at the Caribbean Gospel Music Marlin Awards 2014.

The song, by Bahamian musician Mr J and Canada’s DJ Evangelist, has enjoyed success, but it was the video that put it over the top.

Mr J said that many independent artists create low-budget videos for the songs, but he stepped up his game out of faith and flew to Toronto, Canada.

There, he recorded the song and gathered a professional music video production team to complete what would be a great contender for the Music Video of the Year at the Marlin Awards, which are scheduled to take place in Nassau on July 26.

“It was more than stepping out by faith financially,” Mr J said. “It was very challenging at times, especially mentally holding it together while shooting in the extreme cold conditions for two long days and working with a huge team; an experience that I will never forget.”

The video encourages its audience to walk by faith and to trust God with strategic spiritual methods, such as praying, and to not go on with wishful thinking. He wants to encourage his audience to keep the focus, which is the advancement of the Kingdom of God. The song also challenges its listeners to acquire God’s provision, not just to help the poor, but to reach out to the rich and powerful as well.

On screen, through different cuts in this video, the spirit of entrepreneurship is highlighted and efforts to help fellow indie artists can be seen.

“Money We Want” brings a strong and clear biblical message that balances the topic of money with faith, which is needed in today’s music, Mr J said.

The music video and song have also made an impact in the non-Christian market. It reached the top of Bahamian music charts over and was the most requested music video on a TV show.
