Business to get a 'sweet' boost

Small and medium-sized culinary businesses will receive a boost from the inaugural Sweeet Fest, which is designed to showcase their products and creativity to residents and tourists alike.

In partnership with the Ministry of Tourism’s Culinary Division, marketing executives, Keiani Worrell and Khashan Poitier are hosting the Sweeet Fest on Saturday, May 17, at Pompey Square in the heart of downtown Nassau.

“To be frank, we created this event because we love sweets. More importantly, the Sweeet Fest shows a commitment to entrepreneurship and culinary tourism, an untapped market in the Bahamas,” says Ms Poitier.

Culinary businesses that specialise in desserts are on the rise in the Bahamas, but often lack marketing dollars to promote their craft and services. Now, registered vendors will receive media exposure—online and on radio - in the days leading up to the Sweet Fest.

Sweeet Fest vendors will feature an array of sweets, including guava duff and gourmet desserts, a modernised lemonade stand, hibiscus flavoured cakes, alcohol-infused popsicles and whipped cream. There will also be a Kiddie Circle, featuring carnival treats, face painting and balloon caricatures for kids.

“The Sweeet Fest comes just in time for spring seasonal orders, and for tourists planning their wedding in the Bahamas or simply looking for a private chef, this is an incredible opportunity to showcase the culinary talent in our small country,” says Ms Worrell.
