200 receive cataract surgery

Nearly 200 Bahamians received cataract surgery between May 1 and 12 as part of a partnership between the Bahamas and Chinese governments.

The surgeries were performed at two newly renovated theatres in an expanded eye wing at the Prince Margaret Hospital (PMH).

Chinese medical professionals helped Bahamian medical practitioners perform the surgeries as approximately $578,000 worth of equipment, instruments, medical supplies and pharmaceuticals from the Chinese government were donated to PMH.

A ceremony commemorating the event was held in a room at the Critical Care Block yesterday.
