POLICE arrested six persons, including an elderly woman, Wednesday afternoon after they found more than $230,000 worth of marijuana in a truck.
The seizure happened around 2pm in Colony Village and marked the third major drug bust on New Providence in less than a week.
According to police, a team of officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU), acting on intelligence, went to a residence at Colony Village around 2pm where they searched a black Chevy truck on the property.
Officers discovered 158 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $237,000.
The six suspects, four men ages 54, 43, 36 and 23 and two women ages 63 and 23, were taken into custody.
This latest seizure comes nearly a week after police arrested six men accused of possessing $350,000 worth of marijuana on West Bay Street.
According to police reports the men, ages 48, 44, 29, 27, 25 and 23, were taken into custody after a team of officers from the DEU went to an area known as the Sand Track opposite St Alban’s Drive, off West Bay Street on Friday evening.
The officers then watched the men gather near a moored 18-foot Boston Whaler.
A short time later, at around 6pm, police searched the vessel and discovered the drugs.
Last week Thursday, four men were arrested after they were caught with $900,000 worth of marijuana.
Last month, DEU officers seized $1.2 million worth of marijuana in Andros. The drugs weighed 1,200 lbs.
Police have reported that more than $9 million worth of drugs have been seized for the year.
Officer-in-charge of the DEU Supt Samuel Butler said because of the success in drug seizures the market is shrinking and dealers are increasing the price of drugs.
“I’m not saying that the drugs aren’t still out there, but it is drying up because of the drug busts. Marijuana usually sells for about $1,000 a pound but in the last few weeks or so the price has gone up to $1,500,” he said last week.

Surprised "proudandloudfnm" and "thinker" can still find their illegal drugs. Well "proudandloudfnm" claims he travels alot so he is probably a mule, and "thinker" probably buys from "proudandloudfnm".

LOL... You guys are a riot. KML...Thinker and Proud are correct though. Too much resources going towards something that I think needs to be looked at from another angle as far as the law is concerned. I am saying this objectively as someone who really do not care for mary jane. It really is sad when you have 63 year olds involved in this trade though. It shows that people are really suffering and are taking risks to rake in the dollars. Frankly speaking, we gat too much archaic laws in this dam country anyways!

LOL... Yep I used to live in Shirlea, so I know about Okra Hill , the Kemp Roadians and the rest a dem. I have also worked as a freelancer for years doing several projects for the government. Trust me I know about the ins and outs of not getting paid until the work is completed versus the foreigner getting their big payout just for consultation. The run arounds and all the other bullshit. So I can attest to the fact that foreigners are always preferred over the Bahamians in this country. It is sickening. I am at the point where I started to work on projects that can be used internationally rather than be bothered with this mambo jambo.
