Macedonia Baptist teams beat neighbourhood rivals

MACEDONIA Baptist Church co-ed and men’s teams both won their games over their neighbourhood rivals, St Paul’s Baptist, as the Baptist Sports Council continued its 2014 Softball Classic in the Banker’s Field at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex last night.

In the opener of their double header, Macedonia’s co-ed outslugged St Paul’s 18-11 and in the men’s feature contest, Macedonia got by St Paul’s 12-4. The latter game was a make-up game as St Paul’s filled in for St John’s, who withdrew from the men’s division.

Macedonia 28, St Paul’s 11

In scoring seven runs on five hits in the first inning and seven runs on six hits in the second inning, Macedonia put together enough runs to hold off a late surge by St Pauls, who had their biggest attack in the bottom of the second with six runs on six hits.

D’Kyle Rolle, the winning pitcher, helped his own cause as he went 3-for-4 with a two-run in-the-park home run in the first and a two-run double in the second to lead Macedonia’s offensive attack. Ruythann Simms was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, Courtney Smith went 2-for-4 with a triple and double, scoring twice and Tim Clarke was 3-for-4 with a solo in-the-parker.

Harold ‘Banker’ Fritzgerald went the distance for the loss. Lamar Watkins went 2-for-3 with a two-run in-the-parker, Addie Finley went 3-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored and Prescott Wilson was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored in a losing effort.

Macedonia 12, St Paul’s 4

Scoring in all but the fourth inning, Macedonia put up enough runs to stay ahead of St Paul’s after opening the game in the top of the first inning with five runs on five hits. They added two more runs in both the second and the third and three more in the fifth.

Michael Ingraham, the winning pitcher, helped his own cause by going 4-for-4 with a double and three singles, driving in two runs and scoring twice, while Courtney Smith also had a perfect 4-for-4 night with doubles and singles with two RBI and two runs scored and Keiron Sands, who played a great game at first, was 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored. Harold Fritzgerald suffered the loss once again.

In a limited offensive attack, Winston Seymour Jr was a perfect 3-for-3 with a run scored and Prescott Wilson and Michael Kelly were both 2-for-3 with a run scored. son also drove in a run.
