THE 29th version of the Barracuda/Family Guardian Swim Meet was keenly contested and well supported over the weekend.

The two-day meet was held at the Betty Kelly Kenning National Swim Complex on Friday and Saturday with teams participating from New Providence, Grand Bahama and Abaco.

However, the official results were not available as there was a computer malfunction.

Travano McPhee, a coach of the Barracuda, said they were pleased with the meet, especially with Abaco and Grand Bahama in town to provide some competition.

“We had some best times as most of the clubs will be preparing to travel to Florida to compete in the Plantation Meet in two weeks,” McPhee said. “Overall, I think it was a very competitive meet and the swimmers look good.”

From Grand Bahama, one of the top performances came from Tenniya Martin, who represented Swift. She won the girls’ 11-12 800 metres freestyle in a time of 10 minutes, 16.72 seconds. Other long distance winners were Swift’s Darren Laing (11-12 boys 1,500m in 19:58.62) and Kris Laing (boys 13-14 1,500m in 19:57.00).

The meet had multiple winners, including N’Nhyn Fernander and Mandia Roberts of the Barracuda, Victoria Russell and Alec Sands of Swift and Jewel Pinder of Abaco.

Barracuda Swim Club president Dion Gibson said they had a successful meet. “The kids swum very well and most of them did their best,” Gibson said. “So we were very pleased with what transpired.”
