BEC ripping off the people

EDITOR, The Tribune

BEC’s chairman has said because of its debt to its oil supplier they are refusing yield savings of reduced oil prices and therefore “ripping off” the Bahamian people.

Customers have been paying the added costs of fuel surcharges, and recently also those of activating more costly plants. Now, consistent with this policy, there is a benefit to be passed by BEC to its customers and Mr Miller blames the supplier.

This matter does not involve the Bahamian people; it is a private one between BEC and its supplier. Because BEC is receiving the monetary benefits of reduced oil prices (it is being applied to its fuel debt), it should determine the value of these reductions and pass the savings to the Bahamian people.

This is the honest thing to do. As long as this situation continues, the oil company is not ripping off the Bahamian people. BEC is.

Bahamians need to wake up and start a mass protest ............ boycott BEC and VAT. And then maybe this good-for-nothing government will start to respect us (citizens). Both of those entities are serial rip-offs
