Saunders eyes deputy chairman post

FORMER FNM Deputy Secretary General Don Saunders has announced his intention to run for the post of deputy chairman at the Free National Movement’s convention this month.

“Through my conversations with FNMs, I have come to the conclusion that they are looking for a committed, hardworking and well-spoken deputy chairman with deep political experience to adequately assist their national chairman in these very complex political times,” Mr Saunders said in a statement. “With this in mind, I have committed myself to the nomination for the office of deputy chairman.”

Mr Saunders served as a council representative and executive member. He was also an FNM general election candidate in 2007.

“I have always been an ardent defender of my FNM party on the front line, on television, on radio and on the streets of New Providence and the Family Islands. For me, this task seems comforting and easy, due to my love for my country and the proud efforts and achievements of the FNM during our three terms in government.

“Even during the challenging past two years in opposition, I am proud of our leadership team. We FNMs should be proud of the calibre of leaders we have produced and the calibre of leaders we will be call upon to select from to lead us in the coming years. I am strengthened by my personal conversations with our leaders; but in particular, my last conversation with Dr Hubert Minnis wherein he shared his admiration for FNMs who display a passion for the FNM and national service, even today when his leadership is being challenged.”

The convention is set for November 21.
