Crusaders stun Big Red Machine

The Nassau Christian Academy Crusaders stunned the St Augustine’s College Big Red Machine 15-13 in game 1 of the Bahamas Association of Independent Secondary Schools (BAISS) softball championships.

The St Andrew’s junior girls and the junior boys and senior girls’ teams from SAC also picked up key game 1 wins at the Freedom Farm Field yesterday.

The senior boys’ game was decided by the big, clutch bat of Kevon Moxey who had a huge solo game in the bottom of the seventh inning for the NCA Crusaders, helping to hold off the surging Big Red Machine.

The Crusaders jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the top of the fourth but SAC tied things up in the bottom half of the inning after SAC’s Dawayne Murray went deep to drive home two runs.

The Crusaders took advantage of a shaky pitching performance by Denzle Pratt of SAC in the second inning, scoring four more runs.

The Big Red Machine scratched and clawed their way back to a 10-10 game in the bottom of the fifth with a sensational double by Alex Johnson that brought in three runs.

However, the Crusaders found a way to pull it together and closed out game one after a towering homerun by Moxey in the seventh inning, providing SAC with another speed bump on their road to repeat.

NCA will try to take out the boys from “SAC-County” today in game two.

The SAC senior girls feared a lot better as they made it look easy at times versus St Anne’s, dismantling the Bluewaves 11-1.

The Big Red Machine hopes to duplicate their performance today and clinch the championship in convincing fashion.

The St Andrew’s Hurricanes blew the SAC junior girls off the field yesterday afternoon, 7-2. The Hurricanes lead from start to finish.

St Andrew’s gave a clear indication that they have plans to win it all. They look to make believers of the nation today, leading the series 1-0.

In junior boys’ action, SAC overcame a 9-3 deficit to defeat the Queen’s College (QC) Comets 13-12 in walk-off fashion.

The junior Big Red Machines scored five runs in the 3rd and five in the 5th, feasting on the bad pitch after bad pitch in the late innings.

The Comets look to bounce back today and avoid sweep at the hands of SAC, the team that they haven’t been able to beat the last three times the teams faced off.
