Faith United makes debut with 14-10 victory over St Paul's

FAITH United handed the Baptist Sports Council’s defending men’s champions St Paul’s Fox Hill their third consecutive loss as the 2014 Softball Classic continued on Tuesday night.

In the feature game at the Banker’s Field in the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex, Faith United made their debut with a 14-10 decision over St Paul’s. The game was played after Macedonia Baptist out-slugged last year’s runners-up St John’s 16-13 in a co-ed game.

Faith United 24, St Paul’s 10

Alfred Ferguson cracked a three-run home run and Stenard Duncombe ripped a two-run shot in a five-run top of the fifth inning as Faith United extended their lead to hold onto their upsetting men’s win.

It was the only hit for both players, who were assisted by Stephen Duncombe’s 2-for-4 performance with three runs scored, Renaldo Knowles and Moses Johnson’s 2-for-4 night with two RBI and a run scored and Philip Johnson’s 3-for-4 appearance with a RBI and two runs scored.

Moses Johnson was the winning pitcher, while Harold ‘Banker’ Fritzgerald was the loser.

Addie Finley went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, Raymond Larrimore had a two-run triple, scoring a run and Jamaal Bethel was 2-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored.

Macedonia 16, St John’s 13

Sheena Taylor went 3-for-3 with three RBI and four runs scored, Tim Clarke was 12-for-3 with four RBI and a run scored, while D’Kyle Rolle was 1-for-2 with a RBI and two runs scored to pace the co-ed winners. Ruthann Simms scored three runs to help out, Elricka Gibson was 0-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored and Michael Ferguson was 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.

Darren Stevens went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and scored four times, Belinda Bastian was 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored, Thela Johnson was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and Tori Rolle was 0-for-4 with two runs scored for St John’s.

D’Kyle Rolle was the winning pitcher and Thela Johnson was the loser.
