Paying tribute to traffic fatality victims

THE Road Traffic Department planted a Madeira tree along Lake Cunningham in memory of traffic fatality victims.

November is Road Safety Month, and Minister of State in the Ministry of Transport and Aviation Hope Strachan, along with Road Traffic Department officials, made the gesture of planting a tree as a memorial to road traffic victims. They also said a prayer for traffic fatality victims and their families.

They were accompanied by the family of one of those victims – Netecia Bain, police reservist, who was a back seat passenger when she was killed at the site of the tree planting on Lake Cunningham in May 2002.

She was the sister of Lennor Rolle, an executive officer in the department. It is thought speed was a contributing factor to the accident. She left behind one son.

Sunday is World Day of Remembrance of Road Traffic Victims and in recognition there will be a church service at Kemp Road Union Baptist Church at 11am.
