Applications for funding

THE British High Commission in Jamaica is inviting applications by human rights-related projects in need of funding from the Human Rights and Democracy Programme for next year.

The project concept themes to be encouraged for 2015-16 are the abolition of the death penalty, business and human rights, democratic processes, freedom of expression, freedom of religion or belief, global torture prevention, preventing sexual violence in conflict and promoting women’s rights.

The Human Rights and Democracy Programme (HRDP) is the Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s dedicated annual fund supporting human rights and democracy work overseas. Through targeted projects, it aims to lift the capacity of governments and civil society to promote and protect human rights.

The High Commission announced this week that outline project proposals should be submitted by December 1 and those shortlisted will be invited to submit a full proposal by January 5, 2015.

Final bid outcomes will be announced by the end of March with projects to commence in April.

Applicants should use the template provided on the HRDP website www.gov.uk/human-rights-and-democracy-programme to submit a project concept note of no more than three pages by email to the British High Commission in Kingston at PPA.Kingston@fco.gov.uk
