CHAMPIONSHIPS

THE CV Bethel Stingrays clinched the Government Secondary Schools Sports Association senior boys title behind the impressive most valuable player (MVP) honours by Ramon Miller, who actually produced a GSSSA scoring record in the process.

On Friday at the DW Davis Gymnasium, after the Stingrays got the ball on a defensive play for the first point in the rally-a-point third and deciding set, Miller scored the next 14 points from the service line as they went on to whitewash the CC Sweeting Cobras. The previous record was 11 straight points. The final score in the game was 23-25, 25-19, 15-0.

CV Bethel joined the other teams in winning their respective titles earlier in the week.

In the junior girls’ division, the AF Adderley Fighting Tigers won the title with a 25-18, 25-11 decision over the CH Reeves Raptors as Corlene McKinney was named the MVP.

The junior boys’ title went to AF Adderley as well as Gelledo Oscar was named the MVP for the Fighting Tigers, who won 25-11 and 28-26 over the TA Thompson Scorpions.

And in the senior girls’ division, the CR Walker Knights pulled off the title with a 24-26, 25-19, 15-9 win over CV Bethel. Antonya Fertil was named the MVP.

LEAGUE

THE top player in City Bowling League competition last night was David Slatter of Telco Enterprises who toppled the pins for a 639 three game set.

Runner-up MVP was Lee Davis of the Ten Back Strikers with a respectable 622 set. Greg Taylor of The Discoverers dropped the pins for a huge 245 game followed by a 229 second high game from Joey Demeritte of Checkers Cafe.

The ladies’ MVP of the evening was Xynea Johnson of Bahamasair Flyers with a gigantic 257 high game and a 604 three game set.

Johnson was followed by Driskell Rolle of TK Falcons with a 200 second high game and an outstanding 548 set for the three games.

Other scores of the evening were: Carib Construction def. City Leaguers 3-0; Checker’s Cafe def. BEC Shockers 3-0; Bahamasair Flyers def. The Discovers 2-1; Gia Tech def. The Knights 2-1 and the Ten Back Strikers def. the TK Falcons 2-1.
