FNM CONVENTION: Ingraham says 'majority will determine the future'

FORMER Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham said today that the Free National Movement's (FNM) national convention is important in order to settle "some unsettled issues" affecting the party.

He declined to endorse someone for leader or say whom he voted for, however, adding that the party has "some very good candidates."

"I voted for various people. It would not be appropriate for me to say who I voted for," he said.

Asked if the FNM will be a more united party after tonight's results, which are expected to come in around 6pm, Mr Ingraham said people will have to accept the process that they agreed to and begin the process of moving forward in unity.

"The majority will determine the future," he said, adding that the party will continue to ready itself to defeat its opponents in the next general election.

Earlier, former FNM leader Tommy Turnquest told the press that he nominated Loretta Butler-Turner for leader of the party this morning during that session's nomination stage.

Party faithful Joshua Sears nominated Dr Hubert Minnis leader.

"I believe she has the passion and the vision to lead this party," Mr Turnquest said about Mrs Butler-Turner.

He said he was particularly impressed with the way she conducted herself when announcing her candidacy nearly two months ago.

"Win or lose she should be commended," he said, adding that she has done "wonders for women in politics."

There were no surprises during the nomination stage this morning, with only candidates that have already announced their intention to run being nominated.

.....................................Lets Be Real - Just This One Time ........................

Ingraham.....NO THANKS for indebting us $300M for building roads Bahamians could have built and giving the funds to foreigners instead of locals which would have kept more funds in the country to help mitigate against the recession.

NO THANKS for the hospital extension that wasn't specified properly and facilitated untold $Millions going unaccounted for and remains incomplete and unusable for only GOD himself knows how long.

NO THANKS for opening the flood gates for illegal Haitians who now are doing their best internally and internationally to destroy our country.

NO THANKS for selling $40M in work permits for blue collar jobs that Bahamians could do during the worst recession in living memory leading to the most suicides ever from despondent citizens and to massive unemployment of the most vulnerable in the country.

NO THANKS for dismantling, scuttling and causing the failure of BTC and loss of many careers while knowingly diverting a $BILLION communications contract to Haiti that BTC advised was lucrative and best for the Bahamas.

NO THANKS for turning a blind eye when your Minister of Tourism was caught with both hands and feet in the cookie jar while $5M evaporated into his shell company.

NO THANKS for breaking off running and hiding in the hills after a succession of pure stupidness, blunders and political defeats, then sidestepping your obligation to answer to the electorate in Parliament after five years of absolutely dumb, stupid, treasonous activity.

Hubert indeed had his ways, and THANK ALMIGHTY GOD HE IS GONE...Good riddance!

Wow!!! 7 blunders owed to Ingraham??? Now let's do the PLP and see how far you will have to scroll down to read it all.

You will get no objections from me. Peter is no better than Paul and six of one, half dozen of the other.

Notice how both PLP and FNM immediately found common ground to allow then FNM Minister of tourism to get away with $5M of Treasury money that he soaked away in his shell company.

If both were not guilty and totally complicit of this kind of corruption they would have brought him before the courts.

However, if they take him to court, any junior prosecutor would open the closets full of skeletons of all the rest.

PLENTY politicians NEED TO GO TO JAIL!

Now the roads are 300m ?/actually The IDB cancelled the loan when Bethel trucking was doing the roads and said we had to get a recognized international contractor ,,many of the funds stayed here through payroll, fuel purchases ,tar etc ,,JCC only took their profit ..You use a lot of large words ,treasonous etc ,,hyperbole does not make things fact ..You demean both the FNM and PLP,police etc since they come from us ,not mars ,your premise denotes Bahamians are incapable of being responsible ..I guess you though BTC was better w/ antique equipment and Debbie Barttlet using its buying power to set up telecoms in the Turks etc .Ingraham did not open any flood gates ,we have been selling our country for 40 odd years ,with all of the political generals holding multiple work permits for their indentured servants ..With 5 to 10 g i will get 4 work permits in a month then those four Hatians will have to kick back to me ,and i,ll have to give to whatever crooked ,,MP ,Immigration officer got them for me ,,its a business here ,,

I agree SP, while H.A.I. did represent a new era in Bahamian politics and Governance, it quickly turned to crap for most, save a select few. Funny, sounds like the PLP! Today, he is no doubt doing more harm than good manipulating things behind the scenes. True, he should be remembered for what he did accomplish, and also for his character flaws and vindictive nature. In the balance of things, we really ned to do better!
