FORMER Free National Movement Chairman Darron Cash shot back at insults from PLP Chairman Bradley Roberts yesterday, calling him “irrelevant”.

Mr Cash also suggested that newly elected FNM Deputy Leader Peter Turnquest and Chairman Michael Pintard will hold the Christie administration to the same level of scrutiny that he, and former FNM Deputy Chairman Dr Duane Sands, had in the past.

Mr Roberts had mocked Mr Cash, Dr Sands and Long Island MP Loretta Butler-Turner for their losses in the recent FNM convention.

He made the remarks when contacted by The Tribune on Monday to comment on newly re-elected FNM leader Dr Hubert Minnis’ recent pledges.

Mr Cash accused the PLP chairman of launching into a “jealousy-induced tirade” against members of the FNM.

“I have taken note of the comments of PLP Chairman Bradley Roberts,” Mr Cash said in a statement. “Nothing he says surprises me. Mr Roberts is very predictable. His response to the convention was typical.

“For two and half years of my tenure as chairman, Bradley Roberts was essentially irrelevant. That was because his old school style of politics, namely shouting, name calling and bullying had become irrelevant and tired.

“The diminished dinosaur formerly known as ‘big bad Brad’ is not in the same league as the FNMs who lost races in the last convention. Unlike some people we can point to, we all leave this round of the fight with our heads bloodied, but unbowed.”

“They are always chasing after the wrong targets,” he said, adding: “That is why the government is so disorganized and cannot get anything done.”

Mr Cash said the PLP chairman appears to be “fixated” on him and Dr Sands.

“He has not forgotten the public spanking that Duane Sands put on him when they debated on the Darold Miller show. That cut skin – based on the issues – was the reason he subsequently pulled out of an arrangement to debate me on the programme Parliament Street on Island FM.

“I end by warning Mr Roberts that if he thought Duane Sands and I were formidable adversaries, just wait until Turnquest and Pintard finish with him. His mouth hard, but he won’t have too long to wait. As for me, anytime he is ready for a fight I will take him on...on the issues of course.”
