PRIME Minister Perry Christie last night celebrated 40 years in public service at a ceremony at PLP headquarters.
The celebration occurred during the PLP’s monthly National General Council meeting last night.
In a statement released yesterday, PLP Chairman Bradley Roberts congratulated Mr Christie on reaching the milestone.
“His record as a parliamentarian is stellar, having entered public life and front line politics in 1974 as one of the youngest senators ever appointed at the age of 31,” Mr Roberts said.
“Prime Minister Christie would join the Lower House after the 1977 general election as the honourable member for Centreville and go on to win his seat eight consecutive times, including the 1987 general elections when he contested the seat as an independent candidate.
“As leader of the PLP from 1997, Mr Christie was unmatched in internal party elections and nationally, has led the PLP through two great electoral victories and one disappointing defeat, never wavering as leader and kept the organisation inspired and intact through that difficult electoral period.
“Specifically, the PLP emerged victorious in two bye-elections – Elizabeth in 2010 and North Abaco in 2012 - and two general elections in 2002 and 2012 and suffered that disappointing defeat in 2007 under the leadership Mr Christie,” the chairman said.
Mr Christie has had a varied career in politics.
He served as minister of health and national insurance from 1977 to 1982; minister of tourism from 1982 to 1984; minister of agriculture, trade and industry from 1990 to 1992; and as minister of finance from 2002 to 2007 and from 2012 to the present.
He is a founding member of the Valley Boys Junkanoo group and the Pioneers Sporting Club and won an international medal for the Bahamas in the former Empire Games in the triple jump.

This is nothing to celebrate ......... Perry is a political survivor who is far past his prime........ he is not a national leader worthy of note. Look at his list of ministerial posts and find anything of merit that he accomplished ........... including PM.

Post-WW II history has shown us time and time again that the best leaders the world has to offer are typically very virile men like John F. Kennedy (even with bad back), Martin Luther King, William Jefferson Clinton, and so on. If you can't get it up and keep it up, how in the hell can you possibly consider yourself fit to take on the very demanding physical challenges a leader usually must confront today?! If it were not for the bad health in general that caused a lack of virility for both Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt, WW II probably would have ended three years sooner. The Bahamas today needs an honest healthy virile leader with the vision necessary to conquer for the Bahamian people the challenges confronting our country over the next decade or so. Christie is....for lack of a better term: "Completely spent!" Like a dead battery that should be thrown away, there's just no charge or juice to be had from him!

What does this man have to be proud about? Look at his constituency. It is one of the most dirty, rundown, crime infested, disgraceful, area's in the Bahamas. He has not even been able to make sure his people can nanny inside on a toilet. One wonders why the people vote him in, but we all know the answer to that don't we!

Say what you want about the Prime Minister but he is a skilled politician and not a dumby. If you think the Minnis-led FNM will win along with the DNA splitting the anti-PLP vote. With the DNA and FNM fighting each other a Christie-led PLP will cruise to victory, not to mention they have a significant advantage in the Family Islands.

If PGC has the nerve to run for PM in 2017 and The Bahamian people are stupid enough to vote him and his Party in again then the Country will deserve what is coming to it. This PLP administration is the worst since independence and PGC's dithering, fumbling non-leadership has left the country at the mercy of a group of inefficient, self serving ministers who are taking the country backwards. Even PLP diehards must be embarrassed by the sheer incompetency of this crowd.

As they say, the truth hurt's. Corruption is the order of the day in The Bahamas. Where else can you have M.P.'s that do not obey the law and nothing happens? Where else can you have a man in charge of a new tax that is a proven tax dodger? The leaders of this country are CROOKED and the people see that, why do you think this country is so LAWLESS? We have traded one set of almighty masters for another, they are just of a different hue. They can fool most, but not all!
