AN American citizen has been arrested in Grand Bahama accused of having in his possession a large sum of US currency, suspected of being the proceeds of criminal activity.

Inspector Terecita Pinder reported that Drug Enforcement Unit officers were in the Port Lucaya area around 1pm on Thursday when they arrested a 48-year-old US resident with a large amount of cash.

Twenty-two motorists were ticketed over the weekend for various traffic violations during a road check exercise in the Lucaya area. The Traffic Department conducted a road check at Seahorse Road and drivers were found in violation of the speed limit and other traffic offences.

Inspector Pinder said police are encouraging motorists to buckle up and to drive with extreme care and attention on the streets. She said drivers are also urged to refrain from texting while driving and to not drive under the influence of alcohol.
