BASEBALL

JBLN CLINIC

THE Junior Baseball League of Nassau is slated to host its first US Embassy/JBLN/MLB Baseball Skills Clinic October 30 to November 2 at the St Andrew’s Field of Dreams.

The skills clinic will be conducted by Elias Sosa and Armando Rios, former Major League Baseball players, who are both employed with MLB as instructors.

On Thursday night, the presentation is open to all baseball players, coaches and sports parents. It will be held in the auditorium of St Andrews School 7:30-9:30pm. Registration for the Saturday and Sunday clinics will be held 6-7:15pm.

On Saturday and Sunday, there will be a clinic for players and coaches from 10am to 4pm. The clinic is open for players between the ages of 9-18.

JBLN thanks the US Embassy and Atlantis Paradise Island for their support of this event and they encourage their coaches, parents and players to come out and support the event.

BOXING

CHAMPION BOXING SHOW

CHAMPION Amateur Boxing Club hosted ‘The Champ is Here’ amateur boxing show at the Wulff Road Boxing Centre Saturday night.

In the three matches contested, Emmanuel Rolle won over Michael Gomez as the referee stopped the contest in the third round. Don Rolle won 37-20 over Triple Ace and Lennox Boyce beat Shelton Major 28-22.

The best fight of the night was between Lennox Boyce and Shelton Major. The most improved boxer was Emmanuel Rolle and the most outstanding boxer was Lennox Boyce. Next up is ‘The Show Goes On’ amateur boxing show set for Saturday, November 8.

SOFTBALL

NPOTSA ACTION

THE Proper Care Pool Lady Sharks took a two-game lead over the Cabinet World Rebels in their New Providence Oldtimers Softball Association postseason with 19-12 and 12-10 victories at the Archdeacon William Thompson Softball Park at the Southern Recreation Grounds over the weekend.

Also, the Home Boys won a double header over Da Boyz with their 23-17 and 22-13 slugfest triumphs.

SOFTBALL

BSF NATIONALS

THE Bahamas Softball Federation will crown its new men and women champions this weekend as the National Round Robin Tournament is held at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex. The tournament comes on the heels of the federation’s annual Austin ‘King Snake’ Knowles National High School Tournament. The men and women championship teams from Abaco, Andros, Eleuthera, Grand Bahama and New Providence will compete for the title when the tournament get underway on Thursday and wraps up on Sunday.

TRACK

BSC TRACK MEET

THE Baptist Sports Council will hold its annual track and field classic on Saturday at the original Thomas A Robinson Track and Field Stadium.

The event is scheduled to start at 9am and will feature competition for men and women in the 5-and-under, 20-and-under, 15-and-under, 20-and-under, open and masters categories.

Trophies will be given to the most outstanding athletes in each category and medals to the top three finishers in each event.

The entry fee is $5 per athlete, who will be allowed to compete in a combination of two field and three track or three track and two field events.

CLASSIC

THE Baptist Sports Council will begin its 2014 Softball Classic next week at the Bankers Field at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex.

On Tuesday, November 4, last year’s champions Golden Gates will host runners-up St John’s in the co-ed opener at 7pm. That will be followed by the men’s champions St Paul’s meeting runners-up Golden Gates.

On Thursday, November 6, St Paul’s will play Macedonia in the co-ed opener at 7pm. The men’s feature game will be between Macedonia and St John’s men.

CYCLING

MUSGROVE

MEMORIAL

THE New Providence Cycling Association has announced that because of the inclement weather, the Bertram ‘Cowboy’ Musgrove Memorial Cycling Classic that was postponed over the weekend, will now take place on Sunday.

The event is being held in memory of Musgrove, the former long-time president of the Bahamas Amateur Cycling Federation. Musgrove’s son, Barron ‘Turbo’ Musgrove, the president of the NPCA, is organising the event. For more details, interested persons can contact Musgrove at 425-1075 or 552-5128.
