ARMED robbers engaged police in a shootout at a webshop on Faith Avenue South when officers caught them in the middle of a robbery on Friday night, one of three shooting incidents that police reported over the weekend.
Police said that they received a report that a robbery was underway at the Bahama Dreams webshop around 10pm on Friday. When officers arrived, they saw two armed men leaving the building.
Supt Stephen Dean said the suspects, after spotting police, opened fire on the officers. Police returned fire but were unable to catch the culprits, who reportedly fled the area on foot. One of the suspects was reportedly shot by police. Supt Dean could not say how much money was stolen from the web shop.
Police also reported that an officer shot a shop breaking suspect as he attempted to enter a building on East Street South on Saturday. Supt Dean said police were investigating the circumstances that led to the incident, which occurred shortly after 9:30am.
The man was said to be in stable condition at hospital.
Police also reported that a man was shot in the back early on Saturday morning while walking in the area of Cockburn and Market Streets. He was reportedly in stable condition after he was taken to the hospital by a private vehicle.

Armed robbery of web shops is quickly establishing itself as a trend here in the Bahamas, and we expect that it will continue. After all.... our government has knowingly and irresponsibly endorsed tens of racketeering influenced corrupt organizations, who operate openly thru extortion, intimidation, and loan sharking practices.
How do we really expect the Bahamas to progress when our elected government continues to fuel carnage on our streets???

Comrades it must have been confusing on the policeman's part to figure out who on the crime scene - can we arrest and who is off-limits to being cuffed? Like I keep saying, I couldn't possibly make this stuff up.

Good point. Is it a crime to steal proceeds of crime? It shouldn't be!! Maybe that's a law we need to put in place to stop criminal activity.

Pathetic police response! - fled on foot??? seriously?........I know we have limited resources but when a robber starts shooting at a policeman in the US (or anybody else for that matter) - there is an immediate and massive response with the area cordoned off, tons of police cars - helicopters. We can't even react in anything approaching this fashion. They should be embarrassed!

What Nassau needs is ONE police helicopter to stop so much of this crime. One helicopter hovering say 2,000 feet over the middle of Nassau will be able to see almost every street and road on New Providence without even moving. A car chase would not be possible. It would be highly unlikely to get away on foot. The helicopter wouldn't even need to be fancy. Big windows, a communication device and a big spotlight. That's it!!! The only problem is the maintenance. For some reason government in The Bahamas never budget or think about maintenance.

I had a coworker here in the U.S. tell me this morning she was caught up in the middle of this incident. All I could do is shake my head and apologize. For years I was proud to tell friends visiting the Bahamas that they'd have a good time and suggest places to visit. Now I'm afraid to.
