Defence Force apprehends fishing boat

THE Royal Bahamas Defence Force arrested a Bahamian fishing vessel last Wednesday for suspected violations of the Fisheries Act.

A statement from the RBDF said that HMBS Arthur Dion Hanna was on routine patrol when it stopped a 70 ft Bahamian fishing vessel, Sky Blue, with three people on board.

“Sky Blue was intercepted approximately 15 nautical miles off Flamingo Cay in the Ragged Island chain with an undetermined quantity of undersized crawfish on board during routine boarding procedures,” the statement said.

“The vessel and occupants were subsequently arrested by Defence Force marines and escorted to the Coral Harbour Base (on) Saturday to be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further processing. Authorities will also be investigating the immigration status of one of the occupants found aboard the Bahamian fishing vessel.”

It blows my mind how easy it is for RBDF to arrest a Bahamian vessel but cannot do anything with the Dominicans.

Bahamian fishing vessels don't shoot back at the RBDF...they are easy targets. Thinking our defense force officers are afraid of flying lead.

The sip. sip is that the Dominicans are "protected". 411 is that they "know" when to fish and when to run. Knowing my Bahamian people this sounds about right.

We all seem to be on one accord with this one and it is sad that they have to brag about catching one., who is small, unarmed and heading home in their direction,as opposed to another who is shooting and running away, with undersized, out of season bounties and illegal fishing gear.
