THE Trans Cargo II was grounded off Eight Mile Rock, Grand Bahama, after a leak was discovered onboard the vessel on Wednesday evening.

In an effort to prevent the ship from sinking, the captain piloted the vessel onto a sand bar. The vessel was carrying aragonite, and was on its way to Bimini at the time.

According to sources, repairs were made to the vessel between 11pm and midnight on Wednesday. Some of the aragonite was off loaded and the vessel was floated around 10am yesterday and continued on to Bimini.

Trans Cargo II is registered under the flag of the Bahamas. It was classified as a landing craft and was built in 1986. The Tribune called the Port Department in Freeport and New Providence yesterday concerning the incident, but no one was available up to press time.
