BFSB elects new Board to confront challenge

The Bahamas Financial Services Board (BFSB) has elected its Board of Directors for 2014-2016, as the industry confronts opportunity as well as challenges.

Aliya Allen, BFSB’s chief executive, addressing members at the 2014 Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 24, said: “Embroiled in challenges, we’ve nevertheless seen glimpses of how wonderful our future as an industry could be.”

She highlighted BFSB’s activities over the previous year, including ICON’s (Investment Condominium) introduction in recent months, and spoke to the ongoing challenge of creating value while servicing a diverse membership.

Ms Allen identified several interlinked factors that will be critical for financial services industry success going forward. These include business efficacy; regulation; industry engagement and cooperation among key stakeholders, including the Government and the regulators; a sound financial services policy framework; and innovation.
