A WOMAN had to be removed from a roaring house fire off Mackey Street yesterday morning, according to Fire Services Chief Walter Evans.

Mr Evans said the woman, who is believed to be in her 50s, was taken to hospital.

He told The Tribune that the victim remains unresponsive in a serious, but stable condition.

According to reports, fire services were alerted to a blaze at a home on Yonder Road at 11am. Firefighters, Mr Evans said, took six minutes to respond to the scene.

Once there, Mr Evans said officers forced their way into the home where they found the woman unresponsive. She was taken from the structure and taken to Princess Margaret Hospital by emergency medical services.

The cause of the fire has not been determined as investigations continue, Mr Evans said.
