MICAL MP V Alfred Gray has hired attorney Wayne Munroe, QC, as he seeks to defend himself against accusations that he used his Cabinet position to interfere in a judicial matter.

Police are currently conducting an investigation into whether Mr Gray abused his power by contacting Mayaguana administrator Zephaniah Newbold about a man convicted on the island and sentenced to prison.

Mr Gray has confirmed that he did contact the island administer, but has strongly denied that he attempted to sway the course of justice.

Mr Gray has stepped down from his position as Minister of Local Government.

Mr Munroe said he was retained by Mr Gray to offer legal advice.

"I've gone on record saying that given what the administrator said (to the press), (Mr Gray) would be wise to obtain a lawyer for advice," he said.

However, he cautioned: "Don't get the impression that (Mr Gray) has engaged me because there are any prospects that he could be charged of anything. I've always said that I want to know what the charge could possibly be."

Mr Munroe said that, among other things, Mr Gray has been seeking advice concerning defamation following numerous reports about the controversy featured in the media.

"(Mr Gray) wants to know if he wants to be involved in such things as a politician," he said.

Mr Munroe has previously said Mr Newbold should be removed from his position for speaking publically about what took place behind the scenes as part of his decision to release a man he had previously convicted.

Mr Munroe said he will call a press conference early next week to discuss Mr Gray's matter.

This sleaze bag lawyer already knew he was representing Gray, that is why he made his initial comments insisting that the island administrator should be the one to be questioned instead of Gray. I hope and pray Munroe does not seek to run for public office as he did last election when he vied for a seat with the DNA. He would just be another Phillip Davis with an entourage of criminals, whom he defended, at this disposal.

Oh and the one with the Hitler mustache shouldn't even be visible to the Bahamian people. Just looking at him makes me want to regurgitate!

When you hire Wayne Munroe, you might as well admit guilt.
Only people who need serious gangsta moves to get off hire this man, because they know he will find all the legal loopholes.

Wyane munroe is a great lawyer , I love to see smart black brothers, Mr. Gray should stop talking to the press. I fiigured it out long time. the less one says the better. Because there are some in the press that will twist what you say and use it against you.

This will be interesting, the administrator was wrong to release a prisoner that's the only indisputable fact in this case, everything else is he said he said. However common sense would say the administrator didn't wake up one day and have a change of heart. Gray has already admitted speaking to the administrator, he has admitted giving advice about appeals and bail, the mother says she called Alfred Gray, the admin says he was called twice, did he call the 2nd time because he thought he forgot the info? If he walks it's a travesty,if he stays in cabinet it's a crime.

And what? if you are wrong? ....THISISOURS too.

Not sure what you mean. The administrator was wrong to release the prisoner, from what I've heard once a judge/magistrate makes a decision that matter is no longer under him, only a higher court can reverse it, I stand to be corrected but that's what I understood. So had had no authority to release the prisoner. Every other detail of the case is based on the content of a conversation that only Gray and the administrator are privy to, common sense would tell everyone what happened, but I don't know if judges make decisions on common sense vs evidence...maybe they do. If he walks "in my opinion" it's a travesty, if he stays in cabinet it's a crime...because the Bahamian people see common sense and they know Perry Christie can see common sense too, he should not be allowed to stay.

Keep hope alive that all the criminals in whatever colour tshirt they choose will be exposed and banished. There's still the BEC bribe that the AG has promised us a report on. That's an even clearer case than this, the facts are already established and proven in another court of law with parties admitting guilt

V. Alfred Gray is like an old Cheshire cat. No matter what scrapes he manages to dig himself into, he always manages to land on his feet. ALL FOUR! Maybe thas why Perry ain't too quick to throw him to the dogs (Sorry Leslie)
