Bahamian wrestlers attend high level training course

THE Bahamas Olympic Committee has announced that three Bahamian wrestlers from The Bahamas Wrestling Federation have left The Bahamas to attend a special high level training course at the United States Olympic Committee’s High Level Training Centre in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  The wrestlers are Demitri Jones, Rashji Mackey and Jason Rolle.

Clarence Rolle, president of the Bahamas Wrestling Federation and assistant treasurer in the Bahamas Olympic Committee, thanked the BOC for its assistance in securing the scholarships for the wrestlers through the Pan American Sports Organisation.

“These young wrestlers will definitely benefit from their three weeks in Colorado,” said Rolle. “They will be in an atmosphere of excellence and we expect them to contribute what they’ve learned to others in the federation when they get back home.”

Romell Knowles, secretary general of the BOC, said the committee insists on taking maximum advantage of any international opportunities that can be made available to Bahamian athletes, especially in a sport like wrestling.

“We are committed to the development of all sports and invite other national federations to take advantage of the opportunities we provide on a daily basis for the benefit of our athletes. I wish to congratulate the Bahamas Wrestling Federation and its president, Clarence Rolle, for the job he and his executives are doing - which is, promoting and developing the sport of wrestling in the Bahamas.

The Bahamian wrestlers will train with other elite athletes from around the world in their sports and are expected to return home during the third week in April.

The wrestlers will put their new skills to the test immediately, as they are scheduled to compete in the Pan Am Wrestling Championships in Santiago, Chile, at the end of April.
