ATTORNEY General Allyson Maynard-Gibson said yesterday that the Registrar General’s office expect to “imminently” announce its online company incorporation service, adding that the the registry was moving on its way to becoming World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) standard.

“We are very satisfied that things are moving in the right direction,” said Mrs Maynard-Gibson. “We are focusing on four areas; companies, deeds and documents, the intellectual properties sections as well as births and deaths. In the case of companies, we are expecting imminently to announce the capacity to incorporate companies entirely online from name reservation to print out the certificate of incorporation.

“We have met unexpected challenges. We expect now to be able to unveil it imminently. I have to thank the private bar for working so closely with the deputy deputy registrar in charge of intellectual property and the consultant to enable our registry to become a WIPO standard registry. It’s moving in the right direction.”

Mrs Maynard-Gibson also noted that multiple cruise ships were now performing maritime marriages in The Bahamas. “In relation to maritime marriages we have a situation where more than one cruise ship is now availing themselves of that opportunity,” she said.

Cruise ship passengers can marry on vessels plying Bahamian waters but, prior to the passage of the Maritime Marriage Act 2010, could not do so on vessels registered in the Bahamas.

“In relation to birth and deaths we expect to imminently unveil the system that would enable us to record at the hospitals all live births,” said Mrs Maynard-Gibson.
