Tourism

EDITOR, The Tribune.

Press releases and statements of certain Ministers which glorify the status-quo of their responsibility.

TOURISM...Could not believe that the Minister thought, his words, that Tourism in 2015 will be a banner year - if it is not, Prime Minister Christie must fire the Minister.

Baha Mar, when it opens, will add 18-19 per cent new rooms to the Nassau hotel room inventory. So any conservative would agree that we should see a minimum of 6.8 per cent increase in stay-over visitors, not like in 2013-2014 when they were flat as a pancake against our neighbour Turks & Caicos of 49 per cent year to date, and the lower Caribbean on average 8-15 per cent, (12 per cent additional US residents travelled in the region for a stay-over visit).

Abraham Moss’ letter on Sports Tourism – I totally agree with his conclusions. I would have thought Ms Martin of the Hotel Union would have seen this loss of gratuity income a long time ago. Creating “bed-nights” is useless at 60 per cent discounts.

You know what we need to clean the island of Nassau up is a “royal or state visit”.

Pity Obama got swung to Jamaica and not Nassau. It seems being Chair of CARICOM is only a title with zero influence on decision making... hint, hint, Mr Christie.
