POLICE have identified the man murdered at Union Village on Wednesday afternoon as Leonel Louis-Jean of Robinson Road.

The 30-year-old man was shot shortly after 2pm off Wulff Road. His death pushed the country’s murder toll to 45 for the year, according to The Tribune’s records. The murder was the third in three days this week.

During a press briefing shortly after the incident, Officer-in-Charge of the Central Detective Unit Chief Superintendent Paul Rolle said the victim was walking with a woman when a man with a handgun approached him. “The victim ran but collapsed in the street. He was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. EMS personnel were called on the scene and pronounced him dead,” Chief Supt Rolle said.

The female escaped unharmed during the ordeal. Police are unsure of the motive.

The murder came two days after a man was shot and killed while doing repair work on a car on Ida Street shortly after 4pm. On Monday, police said a gunman approached the victim and another male and fired shots at the pair. One of the victims was shot in the hand and ran for help, but the second man was shot multiple times and died at the scene.

Investigators are also probing the death of a man whose body was found around 3.30am on Monday near the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex. Police were acting on information when they went to a service road near the complex and made the discovery. He had multiple gun shot injuries to the body and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said investigations into all of the cases are active and continuing. Anyone with information on any of these shootings is asked to contact police at 911 or 919, the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 328-TIPS.
