Remember whose money it is

EDITOR, The Tribune.

Time is past overdue for all of us to re-emphasise to the above-mentioned persons that all public funds spent by anyone on behalf of the government and people of The Bahamas, (be they public service personnel, Ministers, etc), are subject to the scrutiny of an audit. Similarly, funds used by private entities, boards, etc, must also undergo scrutiny. Why? because it is the public purse which is being affected.

The abrasive behaviour and disrespect by the individuals concerned, shows the lack of appreciation for the policies followed by democratic countries for ages. These must be carried out no matter who has been appointed to public posts.

Hence, persons should be made aware that it is not their personal money, over which they exercise some temporary discretion in spending.

This policy appears to be a foreign concept to certain people in The Bahamas. I ask, is there any wonder that some disruptive employees react in similar ways in some departments?

Finally, as has already been published, the persons concerned should take note that once they accept work in the public sphere, that they are simply humble servants of the people while they execute the functions of their appointments.
