Death of US man forwarded to the Coroner’s Court

THE death of 24-year-old Mason Hart has been forwarded to the Coroner’s Court after a police autopsy found that his death was consistent with drowning.

Hart – an American - was found naked floating in waters near Scotland Cay, Abaco on July 29.

He had gone to the island to work on a sports fishing boat, The Tucker Tales, after graduating from Texas Tech University in May.

His employer, and close family friend, David Tucker identified his body, his family has said.

Inspector Terecita Pinder said: “The autopsy findings is that the death of Mason Hart is consistent with drowning. However, in all such cases the matter will be forwarded to the Coroner’s Court.

“Based on the circumstances, the court will determine what the exact cause of the death was,” she said.

Ms Pinder said police investigations into the matter were continuing.

Family and friends have been devastated by the news that Hart’s “grand adventure” to the Bahamas had proved fatal. Relatives suspect he may have been the victim of foul play.

According to initial police reports, a resident of Scotland Cay discovered Hart’s body in waters shortly before 5pm. It was reported that Hart had gone out in a dingy on Tuesday, July 28, but did not return. Neither his personal belongings, nor the boat, have not been found.

The family has hired a private investigator and offered a $5,000 reward for any information leading to the recovery of Hart’s boat, which they believe could be vital to a criminal investigation.

A Go Fund Me page created to cover funeral expenses had raised $7,350 up to press time.

“Mason was driven, passionate, sweet and loved by many. When Mason spoke, people wanted to listen,” the page says. “His laughter was contagious. He could cheer up any sad soul and was always the life of the party.”
