AN AUTOPSY is being conducted to determine the cause of death of a young mother who died in the Princess Margaret Hospital early yesterday, an official from the Public Hospitals Authority told The Tribune.

And while the family of 22-year-old D’Andjoua Beneby, pictured, have reserved comment in order to grieve, a source close to her relatives said the family is “stunned” and “hurting” from the unexpected loss.

According to the source, the young mother from Golden Gates had given birth last month at the hospital. When she returned for her two-week check up the medics said all was fine. However, she fell ill and went into hospital for treatment late last week. It is believed that doctors were unable to diagnose her illness. Ms Beneby died around 3am on Sunday.

The family have raised concerns that the afterbirth could have been left in her rather than taken out as it should have been and might have become infected.

Judy Terrell, Corporate Communications Manager at the PHA, confirmed that there was a death at the Princess Margaret Hospital that was being looked into.

“However, we can’t issue a statement until we gather all of the facts and that is happening as we speak and until that’s concluded, there’s no way to speak to the matter.”

“We are conducting a post-mortem (autopsy) and as a result, we are unable to make a comment until that is completed,” she said.

Very tragic! My condolences to the family and especially her children on their loss. As for The Tribune, how horrible and distasteful of you to publish photographs of this young lady's children. They are minors and ought to be protected not exploited so you can sell papers. Do better and apologize to this family!
