Kids making a splash

By TAVIA AUMOITHE

THE ANNUAL Kids Splash event attracted between 200 and 300 under-privileged primary school children on Saturday to the D W Davis grounds.

Hosted by Hope Worldwide (Bahamas), a non-profit charitable organisation that formed in 1999, the event is held to give back to children in need from the Bain Town and Grants Town areas.

According to Jamaal Knowles, the Hope Board Secretary, “Hope is truly dedicated to transforming lives through providing the basic needs to kids and families in under privileged communities.” He said Hope incorporates skits, music, poetry and songs to connect with children more on an intellectual level.

Hope Worldwide, which has its headquarters in Philadelphia, has affiliated chapters throughout the world. Its mission is to “Bring hope. Change lives”. With the help of dedicated volunteers, the Bahamas chapter aims to meet the needs of the poor and less fortunate in the community.

Apart from Kids Splash, Hope hosts another programme, “Feeding the Families”, which is geared towards giving away a box of food to families in need. Other events include a Fun-Run Walk, Blood Drives and Hope Awards banquet.
