POLICE are on the hunt for a man who sexually assaulted a woman late Wednesday night.

The incident happened shortly after 9pm off Marshall Road.

According to a police report, the woman was walking off Soldier Road when a man armed with a knife accosted her and took her into a nearby abandoned building where he sexually assaulted her before fleeing on foot.

The woman reported the matter to police and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Police also said a woman is fighting for her life in hospital after she was shot early Thursday morning.

The incident happened shortly before 3am.

Police said the woman was driving in a vehicle through Lily of the Valley Corner accompanied by a man and a woman, when a gunman armed with a handgun approached and shot her before fleeing on foot.

She was rushed to hospital where she remains in serious condition.
