TENNIS

BAIN ADVANCES IN

FLORIDA

JACOBI Bain, playing in the prestigious 2015 Eddie Herr International Championships, advanced to the quarter-finals with a 7-6 (6), 7-5 win over Tomas Moretto of Argentina. He will go on to play No. 13 seed Maximo Lucentini Sanchez of Argentina 8am today.

VOLLEYBALL

NPVA ACTION

THE New Providence Volleyball Association continued its regular season action at the DW Davis Gymnasium on Wednesday night. In the ladies’ opener, the Lady Truckers defeated the Lady Panthers 25-17, 23-25, 25-5 and 27-25.

And in the other game played, the Scottsdale Vixens swept the Lady Caribs 25-9, 25-12 and 25-19.

The NPVA is scheduled to be back in action tonight with two more games on tap. In the ladies’ opener at 7:30pm, the Lady Techs face the Lady Panthers. In the men’s feature contrest, the Technicians meet the Defenders.

BOXING

YEAR-END SHOW

CHAMPION Amateur Boxing Club is scheduled to hold its final round for 2015, the ‘Fight to the Finish’ with the 21st annual Ray Minus Sr End of Year Amateur Boxing Tournament. It’s an evening of explosive and exciting competition hosted by Champion Amateur Boxing Club. It’s scheduled for 7pm Saturday, December 19 at the Wulff Road Boxing Square.

The main attraction will be a welterweight title championship match betweenTrae Davis (Freeport) vs Lennox Boyce (Nassau). There will also be a rematch betwee nDaedae Eugene (Nassau) and Glovels Escament (Abaco).

The show will showcase Champion Amateur Boxing Club, Freeport Boxing Team, Abaco Boxing Team, Major Pain Boxing Club, Strikers Boxing Club and the Lion Heart Boxing Club. Awards will be presented to most improved boxer; most outstanding boxer, best fight of the tournament, boxer of the year award and the Ray Minus Sr Trophy. All amateur boxers and boxing clubs are welcome to participate.

BASKETBALL

NPBA ACTION

THE New Providence Basketball Association continued its regular season action as the Commonwealth Bank Giants and the Everybody Wins Legends pulled off victories on Wednesday night.

While the Giants routed the Island Game Pros 94-60, the Legends knocked off Another Level Basketball Club 101-80.

Giants 94, Pros 60

Michael Bain Jr scored a game high 24 points with seven rebounds and four assists to pace Commonwealth Bank to victory. Kevin Hinsey had 17 points and 10 rebounds, Jeffrey Henfield had 13 points and seven rebounds, Tehran Cox had nine points, six assists and three rebounds and Lyndrick Storr had six points.

Colton Albury scored 19 points with a game high 23 rebounds to lead the losers. Derrick Ferguson had 14 points and Adorn Charlow had 10 points and six rebounds.

Legends 101,

Basketball Club 80

Clsyton ‘Smiley’ Miller pumped in a game high 26 points with nine rebounds and four assists for the winners. Corey Walkes had 21 points and nine rebounds, Kevin ‘Island’ McPhee had 18 points and six rebounds, Lorenzo Carter had 11 points, Kennedy Polidor had 10 points and eight rebounds and Nipsy Jones chipped in with eight points.

For the losers, Ramon Smith had 19 points, Kweemada King had 18 points and eight rebounds, Vance McPhee had 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists, Lesley Dorcevil had 13 points and eight rebounds and Dale Davis added 11 points and nine rebounds.

SOFTBALL

BSC ACTION

THE Baptist Sports Council is scheduled to continue its 2015 Softball Classic in the Banker’s Field at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex this week.

The playoffs are set to begin on Saturday, December 5 in both the co-ed and men’s divisions.

Charles Saunders and Jordan Prince Williams are playing a best-of-three series for the 19-and-under title.
