IN the announcement of its student of the year for 2015/16, Genesis Academy paid tribute to three of its outstanding sixth graders.

The competition for the coveted prize was so close that Melody Hanna, school principal, determined that Israel Edgecombe, Jared Forbes and Rebecca Roberts all be recognised in the special ceremony.

The student of the year prize goes to the student who demonstrates high performance in academics, community involvement and Christian service.

The winners were announced at the school on November 23 before family, friends and the entire elementary school. Prior to the announcement of the winner, each student stood as their profiles were read to loud cheers of approval by their peers. The profiles were testimony of why each student deserved to be student of the year.

The coveted recognition of student of the year went to Rebecca with first runner-up going to Israel. Jared was the second runner-up. Each student was either on the honour roll, which requires a minimum grade point average of 3.5 or the principal’s honour roll which requires a minimum GPA of 3.7.

In her closing remarks, Mrs Hanna said the students are truly destined for excellence in their fields of endeavour.
