ADVANCES

BAHAMIAN Justin Roberts has pulled off another victory. Roberts defeated No.8 seed Samuel Shropshire in a 6-4, 6-3 decision at the Dominican Republic Futures $15,000 Tournament. Shropshire had a career high ranking of 1,417 and he plays as the No.1 seed for Northwestern University and currently has an Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division 1 singles ranking of 34.

Prior to his big win, 19-year-old Roberts knocked off Stephen Madonia of the United States 6-4, 7-6 in the second round. Roberts got a 6-2, 6-4 win over Jody Maginley of Antigua in the first round.

With the win, Roberts - a sophomore on the Bulls men’s tennis team at the University of South Florida, advanced to the main draw where he will begin play today.

JBLN PRE-SEASON

The Junior Baseball League of Nassau’s 2016 pre-season will come to an end this coming week with a full schedule of games.

The pre-season games played a major role in the preparation and instruction of players and teams as the JBLN prepares to open its 27th season of organised baseball and softball on January 16, 2016. Games scheduled for this week:

BOXING

NASSAU

THE Champion Boxing Club is scheduled to hold the Final Round - 2015 - Fight to the Finish, the 21st edition of the annual Ray Minus Sr End of the Year Amateur Boxing Tournament December 19 at the Nassau Stadium, Fowler Street. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for children.

The main event will be the welterweight championship match between Trae Davis of Freeport and Lennox Boyce of Nassau. Another featured match is Daedae Eugene of Nassau against Glovels Escament of Abaco.

The show will showcase boxers from Champion Amateur Boxing Club, Freeport Boxing Team, Abaco Boxing Team, Major Pain Boxing Club, Strikers Boxing Club and the Lion Heart Boxing Club.

Awards will be presented to the most improved boxer, most outstanding boxer, best fight of the tournament, boxer of the year and the Ray Minus Sr Trophy winner. All amateur boxers and boxing clubs are welcome to participate.

Minus congratulated the Major Pain Amateur Boxing Club for successfully hosting and winning the inaugural Ray Minus Jr Amateur Boxing Show held November 28 at the Nassau Stadium.

TRACK 5K/10K RUN

FAST Track Management is all set to host its first 5K/10K Scholarship Run and its Fast Track Winter Classic 10am December 19 at the Grand Bahama Sports Complex. There is a fee of $12 for children and $3 for adults to participate. All proceeds from the run will benefit one deserving student. Registration forms are available at all fitness facilities, Pollo Tropical and The Copier Limited 2 in Grand Bahama.

BSC POSTSEASON

THE Baptist Sports Council will begin its best-of-three postseason tonight in the Banker’s Field at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex. In the co-ed game at 7pm, St Paul’s will play Macedonia. That will be followed by the men’s feature game between St Paul’s and Golden Gates.

On Thursday, Macedonia and St Paul’s will play game two of their co-ed game, while Macedonia and Charles W Saunders High play face off in the men’s feature contest.
