NPBA: Regulators and Pros tied in first place

IT’S still early in the season, but Mr Ship It Freight Regulators and Island Game Pros both won on Monday night to stay tied in first place in the Vince Ferguson Division of the New Providence Basketball Association.

The Regulators, last year’s runners-up, routed Another Level Basketball Club, while the Pros knocked off the Double R Cleaners 80-71. Both the Regulators and the Pros are now tied at 2-1. Another Level Basketball Club is winless at 0-3, while the Cleaners fell to 1-2.

Cordero Thompson came off the bench and exploded for 17 points with seven rebounds to lead a balanced scoring attack in the win. Kenneth Pratt had 15 points, a game high 10 steals and six rebounds, Gameliel Rose and Lamar Watkins both had 13 points and seven rebounds and Robert Missick (eight rebounds) and Miguel Mackey both had 12 points. Darville Trucillo added nine points with four rebounds.

Mr Ship It opened a 24-14 lead after the first quarter and extended it to 55-33 at the half. They went on a 33-21 tear in the third quarter to blow the game wide open. The Regulators also had a 60-47 advantage in rebounds, but Another Level had a 38-21 difference in turnovers.

Kweemada King scored a game high 18 points with nine rebounds to pace the losers. Lesley Dorceval had 16 points and four rebounds, Dave Davis had 14 points and 11 rebounds and Ramon Smith helped out with 10 points and four rebounds.

Pros 80, Cleaners 71

Adorn Charlow ignited Island Game’s attack with a game high 23 points and 12 rebounds, while Colton Albury had 17 points and a game high 14 rebounds. Jimmy Mackey came off the bench to contribute 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists and Derrick Ferguson added 11 points.

Adolphus Leadon had 15 points and three rebounds, Lenny Oscar had 14 points and 13 rebounds, Herbert Knowles had 11 points and four rebounds and Dax Evans got nine points.

Island Luck led 26-14 after the first quarter and they held onto a 37-33 margin at the half. The Cleaners surged back for a slim 52-50 lead at the end of the third. But the Pros used a 30-19 rout in the fourth to secure the win. The Pros held a 56-50 advantage in rebounds and had one more turnover, 14-13, compared to the Cleaners.
