C W Saunders, Macedonia advance to BSC Softball Championships

CHARLES W Saunders High and Macedonia had to go right down to the wire in their respective men and co-ed semi-final playoff series to advance to the Baptist Sports Council’s 2015 Softball Championships against Golden Gates.

The best-of-three series is scheduled to begin Tuesday in the Banker’s Field at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex with Macedonia taking on Golden Gates in the co-ed opener at 7pm, followed by Charles W Saunders against Golden Gates in the men’s feature contest at 8pm. Game two is set for Thursday in both series and, if necessary, game three will be played on Saturday.

In the men’s best-of-three series, Charles W. Saunders won 2-1 in their series against Macedonia in their men’s series. Charles W Saunders won game one 12-11, Macedonia took game two 18-17 and Charles Saunders came back to take the clincher 9-8.

St Paul’s won game one of the co-ed series in a 22-14 slug-fest, but Macedonia rebounded to turn things around in a sweep, winning 13-9 in game two and an abbreviated 13-3 rout in the clincher.

Golden Gates got a bye into the co-ed final, while their men made short work of St Paul’s.

Khawan Dames had a three-run home run; Brad Wood had a pair of hits, scoring twice and Darren Stevens had two hits with a run scored as Charles W Saunders came up with all of their runs in the second inning in the men’s closer. Rashad Seymour was the winning pitcher and D’Kyle Roll was tagged with the loss.

Theodore Sweeting Jr had a two-run homer; Rodney Forbes had two hits, scoring three times and both Stephen Russell and Trae Gilbert had two hits, scoring twice in the loss.

Macedonia 13, St Paul’s 3

Rodney Forbes had a perfect 3-for-3 outing with a two-run homer to lead Macedonia in their abbreviated win in the co-ed clincher. Kevin Moxey, Christine Sawyer, Theodore Sweeting Jr and D’Kyle Rolle all had two hits with Moxey and Sweeting scoring three times, Sawyer twice and Rolle once. Rolle got the win and Harold ‘Banker’ Fritzgerald was tagged with the loss. Raquel Cooper was 2-for-3 with a run scored; Brian Capron had a solo homer and Johnny Evans scored the only other run for St Paul’s.

D’ Kyle Rolle went 2-for-4 with three RBI, including a single that drove home Kristian Thompson with the game winning run in the fourth for Macedonia’s men to pull even at 1-1.

Thompson was 3-for-4 with a RBI and four runs scored; Stephen Russell was 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored; Weymond Demeritte was 2-for-5 with three runs scored.

D’Kyle Rolle was the winning pitcher, while Rashad Seymour got the loss in relieving Brad Wood Jr on the mound in the third.

Edron Knowles ripped a grand slam homer in his 3-for-3 outing; Rashad Seymour had a three-run homer; Khawan Dames had a two-run homer; Canton Chase was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and Chron Wallace was 2-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored.

Macedonia 13, St Paul’s 9

Highlighted by a two-run triple from Rodney Forbes and a solo homer from Kevin Moxey, Macedonia produced five runs in the extra sixth inning to break up a 8-8 tie at the end of the regulation to snatch a 1-1 tie in their co-ed series.

Forbes ended going 2-for-4 with a RBI triple, scoring twice; Jodie Clarke was 2-for-3 with three runs scored; Kenton Knowles was a perfect 4-for-4 with a run scored; D’Kyle Rolle had two hits with a RBI, scoring twice and Aliah Ferguson scored two runs after getting one hit.

D’Kyle Rolle was the winning pitcher and Harold ‘Banker’ Fritzgerald was tagged with the loss.

Charles Gaitor was 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored and Jason Sweeting was 3-for-3 with a run scored for the losers.

Charles W Saunders 12, Macedonia 11: Edron Knowles went 2-for-4, knocking in Rashad Seymour with the winning run in a four run fifth inning for Charles W Saunders in the men’s series opener.

Seymour was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Philip Johnson, Brad Wood Jr and Angelo Dillet were all 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Wood Jr also had two RBI.

Rashad Seymour was the winning pitcher and D’Kyle Rolle suffered the loss.

Rodney Forbes was 2-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored; D’Kyle Rolle was 2-for-3 with a two-run double and a solo homer, scoring twice and Giovanni Willie was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

St Paul’s 22, Macedonia 14: Raquel Cooper 3-for-4 with three RBI and five runs scored; Charlie Gaitor was 4-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored; Nadia Thompson had two hits with three RBI and two runs scored and Melissa Hall was 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored in the co-ed opener.

Harold ‘Banker’ Fritzgerald was the winning pitcher and Kyle Rolle suffered the loss.

Rodney Forbes was 3-for-3 with three RBI and four runs scored; Mia Turner was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and D’Kyle Rolle and Vashti Turner both scored twice in the loss.
