Giants rout Pirates 97-73, Regulators top Pros 76-58

COMMONWEALTH Bank Giants and Mr Ship It Freight Regulators are making it a run for the top spots in their respective divisions of the New Providence Basketball Association.

On Saturday night at the AF Adderley Gymnasium, the Giants knocked off the Pirates 97-73 and the Regulators pulled off a 76-58 victory over the Island Game Pros.

Giants 97, Pirates 73

Michael Bain Jr, playing 28 minutes, led a balanced scoring attack with 18 points, shooting 6-for-11 from the field and 6-for-8 from the free throw line, with six rebounds and three assists as Commonwealth Bank stayed undefeated in four games to lead the John Archer Division.

David Taylor - a new addition this year - had 17 points, eight assists and six rebounds, Tehran Cox had 13 points, eight rebounds and six assists, Jeffrey Henfield came off the bench and added 13 points, five rebounds and three assists, Kevin Hinsey had eight points and six rebounds, Mark Hanna came off the bench and contributed eight points and five rebounds and Jarell Coakley had six points and seven rebounds.

Tevin Hudson came off the bench and ignited the Pirates’ spark with a game high 19 points and 11 rebouinds in 27 minutes and 32 seconds. Kronoff Dean scored 13 points with six assists and four rebounds, Donathan Johnson had 12 points and nine rebounds, Terrance Brown got 11 points with six rebounds off the bench and Jeffery Rolle added 10 points with five rebounds.

The Giants, who had a 55-44 advantage in rebounding and committed three turnovers less than the Pirates, controlled all facets of the game as they opened a 25-19 first quarter lead and extended it to 49-33 at the half. By the time they got through the third quarter, they increased their lead to 64-54 before they went on a 33-19 tear in the fourth quarter to push the game out of reach.

Regulators 76, Pros 58

In 22 minutes and 16 seconds, Simon Cruz came off the bench and lit up the nets for 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the field and 2-for-2 from the foul line, to lead Mr Ship It Freight as they improved to 3-1 in the Vince Ferguson Division.

Kenneth Pratt, who was 7-for-20 from the field, 1-for-3 from the three-point arch and 5-for-8 for the free throw line as a starter, scored 20 points with six rebounds, Robert Missick had nine points with 14 rebounds, Carlos Thompson had nine points, four assists and three rebounds and Jason Mitchell Jr added six points with six rebounds.

Adorn Charlow, playing 32 minutes, matched the game high honours with 23 points and 20 rebounds for Island Game, who didn’t have any other player in double figures. Dantyel Jolly was the next best scorer with seven points. Jimmy Mackey and Kenol Petit-Home both had six points with 10 and nine rebounds respectively.

The Regulators were out-rebounded 62-57 and they made more turnovers (28-24) but they still managed to come out with a big win. The difference came in the third quarter as they went on a 20-11 spurt to extend their half-time 31-25 to 51-36. The Regulators opened a 18-14 lead after the first quarter and they went on a 25-22 run in the fourth to stay ahead.
