Athletico Bahamas beat COB Caribs, 69-68

ATHLETICO Bahamas and Pyramid Food Rockets were the winners of the New Providence Basketball Association’s double header at the AF Adderley Gymnasium on Monday night.

While Athletico nipped the College of the Bahamas Caribs 69-68 in the opener, Pyramid Food knocked off Rythm Rebels 77-60 in the feature contest.

With just eight seconds remaining, Jamaris King canned a pair of free throws to seal the win in the battle of the undefeated as they improved to 4-0 to even the Commonwealth Bank Giants on top of the standings in the John Archer Division.

COB,  who dropped to 2-1 to now trail the Mr Ship It Freight Regulators in the Vince Ferguson Division, had taken a 68-67 lead with 14 seconds on the clock on a jumper from Kemsy Sylvestre. Three seconds later, Jason Stubbs had a chance to extend the Caribs’ lead on a foul by King, but he missed his pair of charity shots.

King finished with eight points and eight rebounds, but Cameron Adderley came off the bench and led Athletico with 20 points and 11 rebounds as he played 31 minutes and 52 seconds. Shakwon Lewis also came off the bench and scored 18 points with six assists and three rebounds. Dionte Smith had 12 points and a game high 19 rebounds.

Sylvestre matched the game high honours with 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead COB. Stubbs contributed 14 points and four rebounds, Justin Munroe had 13 points and nine rebounds and Anthony Sands and Davon Adderley both chipped in with seven points.

It was a tale of two halves as the Caribs opened a 15-12 lead at the end of the first break and extended it to 35-24 at the half. But Athletico went on a 21-11 tear to come within one (46-45) at the end of the third. Athletico used a 24-22 spurt in the fourth to preserve the win.

Athletico held a 53-41 advantage in rebounds, but made 28 turnovers compared to 16 by COB.

Rockets 77,

Rebels 60

Scottie Farrington scored 18 points with a game high 17 rebounds and seven assists to lead Pyramid Food, who improved to 2-1 for third place in the John Archer Division. In 37 minutes and 51 seconds, Farrington was 7-for-19 from the field, 1-for-4 from the three-point arch and 3-for-6 from the free throw line.

Christorr Stuart came off the bench and scored 17 points with three rebounds and Corey Williams added 15 points with seven rebounds and three assists.

Craig Buchannon scored 16 points in a losing effort for the Rebels, who dropped to 1-1. He was joined by Devon Brennen, who had 13 points, Shaquille Bain finished with 10 points and four assists, Anthony Williams scored eight points and pulled down nine rebounds, Deangelo Duncombe had seven points and three rebounds and Patrick Leadon had six points, 10 rebounds and five assists.

The Rockets opened a 24-12 lead at the end of the first quarter and extended it to 46-27 at the half. The Rebels came back for a 55-45 deficit at the end of the third, but they watched as the Rockets surged to a 22-15 rout in the fourth.

The Rockets also held a 49-33 advantage at the half and they had a 22-19 difference in turnovers.
