Girl guides present award to Cable Bahamas

THE Bahamas Girl Guides Association has awarded Cable Bahamas with its Centennial Award of Appreciation in recognition of the company’s support over the years, as well as its significant contribution to promoting the association’s objective of empowering young girls.

The association recently celebrated 100 years of service and took the opportunity to honour sponsors and organisations that supported them in achieving the milestone at their annual general meeting.

Through the years, Cable Bahamas has provided the Association with live coverage for key events at no cost, and has assisted with television advertising placement. In addition, the company’s community outreach organisation, the Cable Bahamas Cares Foundation, has contributed two grants to the guides in the last two years.

Accepting the award and pledging continued support, Alexia Coakley, Cable Bahamas media operations manager, said the company has worked diligently to assist organisations committed to making a positive impact within the community. Through the Cable Bahamas Cares Foundation, the company has contributed nearly $2.6 million to support hundreds of youth groups and initiatives throughout the many islands it serves in The Bahamas.

“The Bahamas Girl Guides Association has been active in influencing the lives of young girls in our country now for 100 years and we felt it necessary to get behind them and provide the support they deserve,” Ms Coakley said. “It’s very humbling and quite an honour to receive an award like this because we don’t go about seeking recognition. Through helping organisations like the Girl Guides, we’re just hoping to get the word out that positive things are happening in our country.”
