Justin Roberts wins opener at the Dominican Republic Futures

BAHAMIAN tennis ace Justin Roberts came through in flying colours yesterday at the Dominican Republic Futures $15,000 Tournament.

Playing in his first ever main draw singles match, Roberts pulled off a 6-1, 6-3 win over Peter Bertran of the Dominican Republic. In winning 77 per cent of the points, Roberts continued his winning streak against Bertran.

The two first met in the 2010 JITIC Championship when Roberts won the Spanish and English Region’s Boys 14s title over Bertran.

The two players are currently playing for the University of Florida.

Roberts also teamed up with Jody Maginley from Antigua as they won 7-6 (5), 6-4 over Alexander Merino and Jaume Pla Malfeito to advance to the quarter-finals. This was the first ATP doubles point that Roberts has achieved.
