Teenager in hospital after shooting

A TEEN is in serious condition in hospital following a shooting incident in Freeport on Monday evening, police reported.

According to police, shortly after 7pm officers were called to the Raleigh Drive area, where a 19-year-old youth was discovered lying in the street with gunshot wounds in his upper body.

The victim was taken by EMS personnel to the Rand Memorial Hospital, where his injuries are listed as serious.

Inspector Terecita Pinder said investigations are underway and police are following significant leads into the matter.

In other crime news, police arrested two men in connection with the discovery of a quantity of illegal drugs found in an abandoned building in Freeport.

Officers of the Drug Enforcement Unit, acting on a tip, went to the Bass Lane and Murchison Drive area sometime before 3pm where they uncovered a quantity of marijuana hidden in a derelict building.

As a result, two men were arrested and taken into custody.
